Auttareya Dasa (Artur Dunicz) przyłączył się do Ruchu Świadomości Kryszny (ISKCON) w styczniu 1984 roku. Początkowo przebywał w świątyni New Ramakeli w Ostrowach pod Kutnem, a potem w New Śantipura w Czarnowie pod Kamienną Górą. W grudniu 1985 roku otrzymał pierwszą, a dwa lata później, drugą inicjację od mistrza duchowego Śrila Harikeszy Swamiego Wisznupady, ucznia A.C. Bhaktiwedanty Swamiego Prabhupady.

Książka „Nadzieja wbrew Nadziei” napisana jest w formie wspomnień. Autor opisuje jak wielkie wrażenie wywarły na nim książki Śrili Prabhupady, kiedy po raz pierwszy się z nimi zetknął. Pod ich wpływem zmienił swoje życie i stopniowo coraz to głębiej i głębiej zaangażował w proces samorealizacji. Początkowo jego służbą oddania w Ruchu Świadomości Kryszny była praca na roli i trenowanie wołów, a później dystrybucja książek Śrili Prabhupady w Polsce i na świecie.
